Marketing for fitness studios in Brisbane: A 2026 playbook

A practical 2026 playbook for marketing a fitness, pilates, or yoga studio in Brisbane. Local SEO, paid ads strategy for South-East Queensland, the right social channels, and how to build a content engine that actually fills classes.

By Koryn Barrett— Founder & Marketing Director, Kollabo

Brisbane is one of the most competitive fitness markets in Australia by 2026. New studios open monthly across New Farm, Fortitude Valley, Teneriffe, Newstead, and West End. Mid-range CPMs on Meta have climbed to AUD $25–40 for fitness, and Google search costs are now $4–8 per click for terms like "pilates Brisbane" or "reformer studio New Farm".

This is what's actually working in 2026 for studios at the $30–80k/month revenue band.

1. Local SEO is still the highest-ROI channel

Most fitness studios in Brisbane underinvest in Google Business Profile optimisation. The basics that move the needle:

  • Post weekly on your Google Business Profile — class highlights, transformations, coach intros. GBP posts directly impact local pack rankings.
  • Reply to every Google review within 24 hours — both 5-star and 1-star. Response rate is a confirmed local ranking signal.
  • Suburb-specific landing pages on your website: /pilates-new-farm, /pilates-teneriffe, /pilates-newstead. Each one gets unique copy referencing the actual neighbourhood, parking, public transport (Brisbane CityCat/CityCycle).
  • Photos with people in them, geo-tagged in your phone before upload. Stock photography ranks worse on Google's Local Finder.

2. The Brisbane-specific content angle

Brisbane fitness audiences respond to content that acknowledges Brisbane life — humid summers, Friday afternoons in West End, riverside running trails, the post-work South Bank crowd. Generic "pilates strengthens your core" content gets buried.

What works:

  • "The 7am reformer class for South Brisbane commuters" — specific, schedulable, local
  • "How New Farm pilates studios stack up" — comparison + local SEO win
  • "Best pilates studios near you in Brisbane" — direct keyword match for "pilates near me Brisbane"

3. Paid social — Meta is still primary, TikTok is secondary, LinkedIn is dead for B2C fitness

Meta still drives 70%+ of paid bookings for Brisbane fitness studios. The ad accounts that work:

  • 3 creatives per month minimum. Static carousel + reel + before/after
  • Geo-radius: 5km from your studio, not "Brisbane Metropolitan" — you're not converting someone in Wynnum to drive to New Farm twice a week
  • Offer: $39 intro 2-week unlimited works in 2026. $1 first class doesn't anymore — buyers have wised up
  • Retargeting: Anyone who hit your booking page in the last 14 days but didn't convert

TikTok is worth 15-20% of your paid budget if you have a coach who's good on camera. Without that face, skip it.

4. Email + SMS retention beats acquisition every time

Acquiring a new pilates customer in Brisbane in 2026 costs roughly AUD $45–80. Keeping an existing one another month costs $0. Yet most studios send the same monthly newsletter to everyone and call it "marketing".

The 4 sequences that actually retain members:

  1. Welcome flow: 5 emails over 14 days. Day 0 ("welcome"), Day 1 ("book your first class"), Day 7 ("how was your first week?"), Day 10 ("favourite class types so far"), Day 14 ("upgrade to membership").
  2. Lapsed 30: Customer hasn't attended in 30 days. Personalised email + SMS with a free class invite.
  3. Birthday flow: Free class on their birthday week. Recovery rate is wild.
  4. Win-back at 90 days lapsed: Manager email + 50% off any class pack.

Run all 4 of these on autopilot via Kollabo OS or any decent CRM and you'll add 8–12% to monthly retention.

5. The under-used channel: Instagram DMs

Most studios run Instagram as a billboard — post and pray. The studios crushing it in Brisbane right now treat DMs as a sales channel:

  • Auto-DM anyone who comments on a reel: "Hey! What kind of pilates are you into — strength or flexibility?"
  • Anyone who replies → assigned to a coach for a personal followup
  • Coach offers a 1:1 intro session (or a free trial class) directly in DM

Conversion from DM to booked-trial is 15–25% — way higher than any landing page form.

What to do this week

  1. Audit your Google Business Profile. Add 10 new photos, schedule a post for next Tuesday.
  2. Set up the 4 retention email flows above.
  3. Pick one Brisbane-specific content angle and film 5 reels around it this Sunday.
  4. Reply to your last 30 days of Google reviews if you haven't.
