How to Prepare Your Studio for the Winter Slow Season

Planning guide for winter. Schedule adjustments, retention campaigns, and revenue protection strategies.

By Koryn Barrett— Founder & Marketing Director, Kollabo

Winter attendance drops 15–30% at most boutique studios. Preparation starts 6 weeks before the season turns.

Schedule adjustments

Review last winter's data. Which classes emptied? Which held? Cut consistently under-50% classes. Add indoor alternatives for outdoor sessions. Consider later morning starts (6:30am vs 6am).

Launch a winter challenge

Announce a 6-week winter challenge starting the first week of June (Southern Hemisphere) or December (Northern). Entry fee $79–$99. Goal: maintain attendance through the toughest months.

Freeze policy

Offer a limited membership freeze option (max 4 weeks). Better to freeze and retain than lose the member entirely. Auto-resume on the set date.

Create warmth (literally)

Heating on before 5am. Hot towels. Tea and coffee. Make the studio a warm refuge, not a cold obligation.

KOLLABO OS supports membership freezes, challenges, and automated re-engagement for lapsed winter attendance. Get ready
